Every Couple Is Different
You Might Recognize:
-
The same fight, over and over, with a different trigger each time
-
Conversations that turn into defensiveness before they start
-
Feeling more like roommates than partners
-
Trust that got damaged and hasn't rebuilt
-
Growing apart after a baby, a move, or a career change
-
One of you wants to talk and the other shuts down
If any of this sounds familiar, our couples therapists can help.
Most Couples Aren't Fighting About What They Think They're Fighting About
The dishes, the phone, the in-laws. These are rarely the actual issue. Underneath most recurring arguments is a question neither partner is asking out loud: do you have my back, and do I matter to you.
Couples therapy slows the argument down enough to hear the question underneath it. That's when the pattern starts to shift, because you're finally responding to what's actually being asked.
Couples come in at every stage, from a rough patch to seriously considering separation. Earlier is easier, but it's rarely too late.
Why Houston Therapy?
Couples work isn't individual therapy with two people in the room. Our couples therapists are trained specifically in relational work, and several hold dual training in marriage and family therapy.
Our approach draws on:
-
Emotionally focused Therapy
-
Attachment-based couples work
-
Psychodynamic and insight-oriented therapy
-
The Gottman Method
-
Communication and conflict repair skills
-
Trauma-informed work when past experiences are in the room
-
Discernment counseling when you're not sure whether to stay
Our intake coordinator will help you find the right match, because therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all.
